Weekend Camping Amongst Green Paddy Fields and Swaying Coconut Trees
Kampung Penanga, A Cultural Village North of Butterworth
Penaga, a border town located about 8km from Kuala Muda, was where we spent the night with a group of friends camping under the stars. The idyllic agricultural town with mix of endless paddy fields & coconut farms form a picturesque backdrop for Kampung Agong, a countryside “theme park” that is also a perfect venue for those new to camping and those wanting to experience Kampung-style sleepover.
The long Raya weekend resulted in unavoidably heavy crowd, but the sprawling grounds & the many Instagram friendly spots gave an illusion otherwise. Furthermore, staying overnight allowed us exclusive access for a couple of hours before and after operating hours, so no need to crowd with the day trippers. The well equipped campsite (proper shower, clean toilets, camp fire pit, adjacent car park) proved to be an excellent venue for the first timers in our group. Having the grounds all to ourselves was a big bonus too! The only drawback was the balmy windless night, but the great company, good food, durian and laughters around the camp fire (the multiple chilled cans helped too) ensured time passed by rather quickly.
